Creation and Redemption-I
Description
This teaching is the first in a series on creation and redemption series. It starts a series that looks into how things were before the fall and how things became after the fall. What we had, what we lost, and what Christ came to reveal we can have. It is a comprehensive teaching on the fall, sin, redemption, and glory.
INTRODUCTION: THE FALL OF MAN
- One of the things that I realized is how many Christians and people in general struggle with "balance."
- For example, you could have Christians arguing about Scriptures teachings on "mercy" vs "justice" while the Bible states that "mercy and justice kiss each other"-Psalms 85:10
- Just like Satan manages to confuse and deceive people that they have to choose between mercy and justice, it is the same way he manages to deceive people to choose between pre-fall and post-fall realities.
- What is the fall? what was pre-fall? what happened after the fall?
- The fall is simply the time "sin entered the world"- Romans 5:12. And that verse quickly tells us the ultimate consequence of sin as "death." The one man, of course, is Adam who was given the forbidden fruit of knowledge of good and evil by his wife Eve.
- If Scripture tells us that "sin entered the world" then it must have come from somewhere outside of the world. Since Satan was the one who deceived Eve, He knew that he had no access to enter and control the world (1 John 5:19) unless he initiated a rebellion in the people God created.
- So now we understand what was before the fall, what happened in the fall, and we can see what happened after the fall. 1. The world was good with no sin before the fall 2. Sin entered the world in the fall
- Sin increased after the fall and Jesus Christ brought redemption.
- The implications of these realities are HUGE: Before the fall, man was created to work the earth and have dominion over creation (Genesis 1:26). While earning the bread through "sweat" Genesis 3:19 was a curse of the fall, work itself was a holy endeavor instituted before the fall. After the fall, the earth in which man was put to work was cursed which meant things would be difficult, hence the reason to eat" by the sweat of your brow." Work also would no longer be the primary concern for man since now sin had become a reality, getting rid of it was important. It is not just the work that became difficult because of the corruption of the world but also the dominion that God had given to man to rule the earth. Dominion also became corrupt in the fall. This is why we have words like oppression, corruption, human rights abuse, etc, etc.
- Thankfully, eventually Jesus Christ was born into the world. His coming meant redemption as He came to save people from their sins (Matthew 1:21; Psalms 130:8). This also means that Jesus dealt with the main issue that caused the good world to become terrible after the fall.
